Book Cover Design - Neil Young Living Folk Art

Here is my final version of my book cover. I found this to be a very enjoyable project. I wish the image of Neil Young looked more stylized in the finished project. When it is enlarged you can see the paint strokes. Lesson learned!

Book Cover Design - Neil Young

Here is my rough sketch for my book cover for Neil Young. I titled it Neil Young with a subtitle of Living folk art. I am trying to play off that theme as I feel that Neil Young has adapted with the times, he has kept a true sense of self that is reflective of his values and style. I am going to apply a portrait of his face to the side of a barn and attempt to distress the image. I still working on the back of the book. I am going to play with the current setup below and will trim it down ps as it progresses.

Medicinal Marijuana - Awareness Poster Final Version

Here is my final version of my awareness poster for Medicinal Marijuana. I ended up changing the content and layout around once I started to mess with it in ps. I wanted to include data, but found it to be to busy. Great stats to back up the cause though. I included them below, if anyone was interested. I tried to keep it as concise as possible while still communicating a clear message, while remaining slightly obscure.

Awareness Poster - Medicinal Marijuana

Below are my initial sketches for my awareness poster. I haven't yet worked out exactly what the text will say, or how it will be formatted. Also I think that I may scale back some of the content once it is layed-out, but I want to see what looks best before I remove anything. Though it I hard to make out, I am planning on blending a collage of money with the bottom of the capital building, and a collage of multicolor pills with the top. I was thinking about finding some campaign finance info as it pertains to the pharmaceutical industry and placing it behind the building. I really like that concept on the bottom and haven't sold myself on the top yet. I am sure that it will really evolve once I bring it into ps.

Final version - Photomontage

Here is the final version of my photomontage for my band Salt Water Gargle. I tried to have the poster communicate a "debride-ingly" (not an actual word, I just made it up for the context of this piece) refreshing musical experience, harsh yet cleansing, that had elements of ritualism. I found the sketching process to be extremely helpful in identifying the different ideas in terms of layout, as well as the individual components. Once these had been identified, it was very easy to shuffle them around in ps and tweak them until I arrived at a point where the piece felt complete. The feedback from part one was also very helpful in refining the design.

Photomontage - Salt Water Gargle

Above are the two sketches I made while brainstorming posters for my fictitious band "Salt Water Gargle." The first had a sequential theme, while the other two I am thinking more of a poster layout. The band name is in honor of the RSV that has incapacitated my household for the last two weeks. A moment in time. Below is the result of playing around with my ideas in Photoshop.
