Here are my rough draft for my website design project. I have chosen to make a website layout for the nonprofit Catskill Mountain Keeper. I broke up the details of the design to each page to make the explanations clearer. Scale is off! I made the top logo and banner too large when sketching it out. They will be proportional when done digitally. Also I am planning on making the bottom banner look as if it were grass on a ridge to give it a foreground appearance to contrast with the top distant mountain vista.
On the home page I have the logo on top followed by a navigation banner. I am going to make the background of the banner black and colorize the mountain buttons for each page. I think they will contrast well on the thin black banner. Beneath the banner I have the nonprofits mission statement, followed by recent developments. I was thinking this section could have a scroll down feature so the user can read longer sections of text without taking up additional real estate. Beneath that are links to CMK's programs. The links will be clipart style renderings that could be scrolled through left/right. At the bottom of the page will be the standard follow @ with links for home, contact us, privacy policy and a donate now button (link to outside site). This bottom banner just like the top will be present on every page.
The about page will feature information about the nonprofit (text), as well as a photo of the staff with names and titles, and a list of the board of directors. All of this info will exist on a single page.
The news page will have 2 distinct info boxes one for action alerts and one for press releases. Each will have the space for a full text article and the box itself would allow for flipping right for the next article and left to go back. I also was thinking it would be good to have a view all link to bring each section to their own archival style page.
The volunteer page is very basic and consists of info on how to volunteer and links to do so.
Now it's time to start working it out in ps.
